Good food - a Frenchman's main concern!

France has long been hailed home of some of the world’s finest cuisine, and the tradition lives on in the Dordogne! It is fair to say that the French really value their food – most shops and offices close down between 12pm and 2pm in order that they can enjoy their lunch to the full. Coupled with this, there is a very strong bias to source food locally and insist that it is fresh.

 

A myriad of cafes' bars & restaurants
In the Dordogne, we are spoilt with a plethora of excellent local cafes, bistros and restaurants which form the cornerstone of the ‘cafe culture’ - providing coffees and meals from early morning to late in the evening. Most restaurants are small, family-run affairs, offering a lunch time ‘formule’ that includes two or three courses, wine and coffee for €10 - €12. Moreover, a sophisticated community supports a number of truly excellent restaurants throughout the area for that special dining experience, with evening meals ranging from €20 to €80 per head.

 

Local Specialities
The big local favourites are duck, foie-gras (a must, accompanied by a glass of Monbazillac), truffles, walnuts, world-famous Prunes d’Agen, and dried tomatoes.
