It’s official - Dordogne enjoys one of the lowest rates of crime in France – to be exact it rates 6th out of France’s 95 departments for lowest rate of violent attack in 2007 at 3.0 per 1,000 residents.  And interestingly the rate dropped 0.2% compared to 2006 nationally – in stark contrast to many of its European neighbours.

Seine Saint-Denis, located just to the north-east of Paris, is the most dangerous department at 19.5 attacks per 1,000 residents, with Ile-de-France the most dangerous region. Provence-Alps-Cote d’Azur is the second worst region at 9.8.

The top three include Ceruse, Vendee and Chantal at 2.2, 2.6 and 2.7 respectively.

The low rate of crime is one of the big contributors to the high quality of life enjoyed here in the Dordogne.
